Welcome to the Cytopathology Section of Anatomic Pathology.

Cytopathology studies GYN and Non-GYN cells to determine the presence of disease. This area is also responsible for the Fine Needle Aspiration collection and analysis.

LSUHSC has highly qualified staff to assist you with any question in this area.

Cytopathology testing can include, but is not limited to:

  • Cytopathology, cervical or vaginal, requiring interpretation by physician.
  • Cytopathology, cervical/vaginal in preservative fluid, auto thin layer prep; manual screen.
  • Cytopathology, cervical/vaginal in preservative fluid, auto thin layer prep; image guided.
  • Cytopathology, slides, cervical or vaginal (Bethesda System) - manual screening under physician supervision.
  • Cytopathology, concentration technique, smears and interpretation.
  • Cytopathology, fluids, washing or brushings, except cervical or vaginal, smears w/interpretation.
  • Cytopathology, touch prep smears, any other source, screening and interpretation.
  • Cytopathology, evaluate fine needle aspirate, immediate cytohistologic study to determine adequacy of specimen(s), interpretation and report.
  • Fine needle aspiration, w/out imaging guidance.
  • HPV - Papillomavirus, human, single amplification for high risk HPV types.
