 Research
facilities include space within the Department of Pathology located in
the Medical School and within the Virginia K. Shehee Biomedical Research
Institute. The research institute, which opened in February 1994, is 10
stories high, 160,000 sq. ft., and is located adjacent to the LSU Medical
School.
Although
the Department of Pathology has been present at LSU Health Sciences Center
since its inception, the departments Division of Research was establish
only eight years ago. Since that time, three full-time basic science researchers
have joined the division. Both basic science and clinical faculty offer
residents, clinical fellows, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
the potential to experience a diverse range of research projects. In turn,
the trainees have an opportunity to present the results of their projects
at national meetings and an annual departmental research forum.
The LSUHSC Pathology Division of Research currently is ranked
8th at LSUHSC-Shreveport for total extramural funding in 2002-2003. Our
goal is to continue to grow our research program in this area over the
next five years to make our program within the top five extramurally funded
departments at LSUHSC. |
