Only test kits and instrumentation approved of by the POC Committee may be utilized in testing of LSUHSC-Shreveport patients. This is applicable in both the inpatient and outpatient areas. Kits and instrumentation must undergo a rigorous assessment by POC Laboratory Staff to determine the following:

  • Compliance With Regulatory Standards
  • Confidentiality / Security Issues
  • Cost Feasibility
  • Documentation Requirements - Manual vs. Electronic
  • Ease Of Use
  • Error Potential
  • Infection Control Issues
  • Maintenance Requirements
  • Method Specification Analysis
  • Portability
  • Positive and Negative Outcome Potentials
  • Proficiency Testing Requirements
  • Quality Assurance Issues
  • Quality Control Requirements
  • Result Documentation
  • Safety Features
  • Training and Competency Requirements
Upon completion of assessment, the POC Supervisor makes appropriate recommendation with substantiating documentation to the POC Committee who will approve or decline the request.
