W.R. Mathews MD Endowed Professorship

Goals:

To enhance the academic mission and image of the Anatomic Pathology Division of the Department of Pathology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC), Shreveport.
Objectives:

To develop an annual W.R. Mathews Professorship so that it brings to the medical center and community an internationally recognized anatomic pathologist every year to lecture and share his/her experience with local and regional pathologists and other medical specialists. This activity will:

    1. Help maintain Dr. Mathews' memory and enhance Anatomic Pathology practices in the region.
    2. Enhance the image of the Department of Pathology in the community.
    3. Expand research projects in Anatomic Pathology to enhance competition for grants and help develop talented junior faculty members to advance their careers.
Accountability:

The Chairman of the Department of Pathology at LSUHSC should determine priorities for using the funds in consultation with the Director of Anatomic Pathology.

Periodic reports to the Board of Regents must detail how the money was used and the impact that the endowed professorship has had upon the academic development of the Department of Pathology at LSUHSC, Shreveport.
