First Year Resident Applicants
To apply for a first year residency position, please utilize ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service). For your application, you will need to submit the following:

 Complete application form
 Medical School Dean’s Letter
 Personal Statement
 Medical School and pre-medical transcripts
 USMLE Scores
 Current letters of recommendation (3)
 Curriculum Vitae
 Copy of ECGMG Certificate if you are a Foreign Medical Graduate

We are participating in NRMP (National Residency Match Program).

Advanced Level Resident Applicants

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for Residency in your program?
Applications are received through ERAS only.

How many positions will you have available?
We have three PGY 1 positions available for 2011-2012.

How many residents are in your program?
12

What percentage of your residents are IMG’s?
Over 50%

What are your requirements for residency?
 Graduation from an approved medical school with MD or equivalent
 Passing grade on USMLE I and II (2CK minimum score: 80)
 ECFMG certificate if IMG
 Three letters of recommendation
 ERAS application

What is the likelihood I will get an interview?
A full ERAS application is required before any candidates are considered.

Does it matter how long I have been out of medical school?
Although, graduation from medical school within the last ten years is an advantage, we will consider other highly qualified applicants.

Do you sponsor any visas?
A J1 Visa will be considered.

Do you require US clinical experience?
While US clinical experience is a desirable quality, it is not a requirement.

Who should I ask to write my reference letters?
Strong letters of recommendation from your recent educational or clinical experiences may be used. A pathologist or expert who is familiar with your aptitude for pathology is preferred.

Are there any specific requirements for international medical graduates?
Appropriate Visa Status; USMLE exam scores; fluency in English; ECFMG Certification

What is the deadline for applying to your program?
The deadline for applications to our program is December 20 each year for the following July 1 start date; however, an early complete ERAS application is recommended.

 
Fellowship Application
To apply for a fellowship position in our program, please use the Fellowship Application that has been developed by the LSUHSC Graduate Medical Education. Visit the GME website for general information on graduate medical education at LSUHSC-Shreveport.
 
Student Worker Application
Policy: Effective September 1, 2007, a student worker approval form is required for any student working in Pathology regardless of the nature, location of their activity or source of funding. This includes:
  • Any clinical laboratory, research laboratory, or office.
  • Students at any educational level (high school, college, medical school, graduate school).
  • Students performing any function (research, work study, informal observation, etc).

The policy includes students who have worked previously and students that are currently working in the department in which their employment or project extends beyond September 1, 2007.
